The road to our first edition

Every product has a first edition — the version where all the pieces finally come together and it's ready to hand to the world. We're almost there, and we wanted to look back at the road that got us here.

Papertools started with a simple frustration: running a small business means drowning in paperwork, and the tools meant to help were either too heavy or too thin. We set out to build the one in between — fast, focused, and genuinely pleasant to use.

The private beta is where that's come to life. A small group of real businesses is putting it through its paces, and it already does a lot:

• Documents you can shape and share
• Recurring billing that runs itself
• Online payments that go straight to you
• Bulk import, one-click export, and a faster app all round

None of it landed by accident. Every rough edge you've flagged, every "why can't I just…" has gone straight onto the list — and a lot of it is already done.

A first edition isn't the end of the story. It's the version we're proud enough to put our name on — the foundation everything else builds on.
