Import bank statements and match them

Your books say what should have happened; the bank statement says what did. Matching joins the two, line by line — and the lines that match nothing are exactly the ones worth finding: the bank fee you never recorded, the payment that never arrived.

Import a statement

1. Open Money accounts, pick the account, and choose Import a statement.
2. Bring a CSV — read instantly, right in your browser — or simply the PDF statement from your bank, and Paper-Ai reads it for you. Either way you preview every line before anything imports, and duplicates from overlapping dates are skipped automatically.
3. Each imported line arrives as unmatched — money that moved, waiting to be explained. Imported a wrong file? An import can be undone whole, leaving no residue.

Match the lines

1. Go to Money accounts → Match. Each unmatched line shows its date, description, and amount, with suggested matches from your books beside it.
2. Match a line to the payment, expense, or transfer it belongs to. Matching is an annotation — it never creates or changes money.
3. Line has no document because you never recorded one? Create the expense straight from the line — then it matches.
4. Lines that aren't yours to explain (the opening balance row, say) can be ignored.

Sign the month off

The Bank reconciliation report is your monthly checklist: when a month's lines all agree with the books, sign it off. Sign-off refuses a difference rather than recording one — a disagreement means something's missing, and finding it is the whole point.

Good to know

• Your PDF is transcribed and never stored — Papertools keeps the lines, not the file.
• A matched document can't be voided or archived out from under its statement line — unmatch it first, deliberately.
