Papertools today launched Paper-Ai, an AI assistant built directly into every workspace — one you can talk to, out loud or by typing, and that does real bookkeeping work: drafting invoices, recording expenses and payments, filling in customer and staff records, and answering questions straight from the business's own books.
Tell it "invoice for Ali Hardware, ten folding chairs, due Friday" and a real draft appears — built from your customers, your catalog, your tax rates. Nothing invented. Nothing saved until you press the button.
An assistant with rules, not just abilities
Most AI features ask for trust. Paper-Ai was designed so it doesn't have to:
- It never saves anything itself. Every draft, every change, every send waits for a human tap on the same buttons the page always had.
- It only knows your workspace. Names, items and tax rates come exclusively from the business's own records — a name it can't find stays blank, and says so.
- Every figure is computed, never guessed. When Paper-Ai answers "who owes us money?" or "how was profit this quarter?", the numbers come from the same double-entry books behind every Papertools report.
- The owner holds the switch. One toggle in settings turns it off for the whole team.
From dictation to co-work
Paper-Ai goes beyond answering. Open any form and it co-writes it live — say the change, watch the field move. Ask about the report you're looking at and it explains the page in plain words, anchored by your own figures. Ask it to send, mark, or fix a document and it offers the page's own buttons, confirmation popups included. The page stays the authority; Paper-Ai is the co-worker.

Paper-Ai is live today for every Papertools workspace — including the free tier — each plan with its own monthly command allowance, metered transparently inside the chat. It is built on Anthropic's Claude and works everywhere Papertools does: browser, desktop, and phone.
