Know what's on your shelf — and what it's worth

Inventory in three honest modes — off, counted, or costed — with stock that moves itself and a nightly check that keeps shelf and books agreeing.

Inventory in Papertools speaks three honest modes, and you pick per product:

  • Off — a service, or a thing you don't track. Nothing counted, nothing pretended.
  • Counted — Papertools keeps the quantity straight: sales take from the shelf, purchases fill it, and a stock count sets it right.
  • Costed — the full story: every sale carries its cost of goods to your profit & loss, every purchase carries value onto the shelf, and the balance sheet knows what your stock is worth.

Around the modes, the useful machinery:

  • Restock from the product page — a small wizard that writes a real bill, so the shelf and the supplier's paper agree from the start.
  • A product remembers its vendor, and the vendor page knows its wares.
  • Returns move both the units and the value — yours or your customers'.
  • A nightly check compares the shelf to the books and tells you if they ever drift, before you'd notice.

Switching a product to costed is a one-way door — deliberately. Books that count money shouldn't change their mind quietly.
