Your tax return, ready to copy

The Tax summary report now speaks your country's filing language — the exact boxes of your BAS, VAT return or SST-02, the exact filing windows, and a pre-filing checklist that catches loose ends before you submit.

Filing a tax return should be the easy part. Your books already know how much tax you collected and how much you paid — the only work left is translating those numbers into the boxes on a government form and getting the dates exactly right.

Papertools now does that translation for you.

The filing card

Open Reports → Tax summary in a supported country and a new card sits at the top: your return's own boxes, filled with your figures for the period in view. An Australian business sees G1, 1A and 1B — the three Simpler BAS labels. A Singapore business sees the F5 boxes. A Malaysian business sees the SST-02 figures — with no misleading "minus purchases" line, because SST doesn't work that way. Each card ends with a quiet link to your country's filing portal.

Copy the numbers across, submit, done. Papertools never files anything on your behalf — the numbers are yours, and so is the filing.

Filing windows, cut exactly right

"This quarter" on a report and "this quarter" on a tax return are not always the same thing. Two-month filing periods, staggered quarterly cycles, fiscal anchors — the card now offers your recent filing windows as one-tap chips, cut precisely the way your return cuts them, with the still-running period clearly marked. Countries where the tax office assigns your cycle get one new question in Settings → Tax; everyone else just gets the right dates.

A checklist before you file

When you're viewing a completed period, the card may add a short blue note listing anything genuinely unfinished: draft invoices dated in the period (they're not in the figures — yet), expenses still waiting for approval, bank lines nobody has matched, and a reminder to lock the period after filing so nothing drifts under a submitted return. Every line links straight to the fix, and when your books are clean, the note simply isn't there.

Ask Paper-Ai

Paper-Ai now knows your return by name. Ask "how's my BAS looking?" or "when is my VAT return due?" and she answers from your own books and points you at the report.

Supported today: Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Singapore, South Africa, Malaysia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina — each one verified against current official guidance, with more countries on the way. Everywhere else, the Tax summary keeps its familiar by-rate view for you to map yourself.

As always: figures are invoice-dated (accrual basis), and the card is a starting point, not tax advice — check your own filing requirements before you submit.
